Training Sessions

Updated this week

In this article, we’ll provide summaries and links to all our webinars.

➡️Four Pillars of Fluentbe Presentations

Webinar link: Four Pillars Webinar

Here are some key highlights from the recording, but we recommend watching the webinar in full.

👉 Revising - practice makes perfect

👉 Goals - our trusted guide

👉 Summary - always make time for it

👉 Next lesson's topic - create a loop

We also unanimously agreed on the critical importance of reminding our students about the power of self-study. Accessible round-the-clock, homework, pre-lesson materials, and flashcards await them in the Student Space.

Lastly, our discourse touched upon the intricacies of Timings and Teacher instructions.

Timings may seem daunting, but they offer insights into each activity's significance.

Teacher instructions may appear lengthy, yet they provide structure. Essentially, they aim to ignite meaningful class interactions for you and your students.

➡️Corrections and Feedback using Fluentbe Presentations

Another useful resource: Corrections and Feedback Article

Here are some key highlights from the recording, but we recommend watching the webinar in full. And as Ivana said, focus on corrections, not mistakes 💪

👉 Types of Corrections: Different types of corrections should be used at different stages of the lesson, such as immediate teacher correction during the initial stages and self-correction and peer correction as the lesson progresses.

👉 Self-Correction: It's crucial to encourage self-correction, giving students time to identify and correct their mistakes with guidance if needed. This builds their confidence and understanding.

👉 Balance: Teachers should avoid overwhelming students with too many corrections but also ensure that mistakes are addressed. Finding the "sweet spot" is essential.

👉 Feedback: Effective feedback is crucial. It should be a "sandwich" approach: start with positive points, address areas for improvement, and end with more positive feedback to keep students motivated.

👉 Peer Correction: Towards the end of the lesson, peer correction can be beneficial. It encourages students to listen and give feedback to each other, enhancing their learning experience.

👉 Teacher’s Role: Teachers should be patient, friendly, and supportive, creating a safe environment where students feel comfortable making and correcting mistakes.

👉 Consistency: Consistent feedback and corrections help students see their progress and understand that learning is an ongoing process.

👉 Adaptability: Teachers should adapt their methods to suit the students' needs and the dynamics of the classroom.

➡️Young Learners

AKA The magic comes from the teacher, not the materials.

This webinar offers practical strategies and tips for educators to create a supportive, engaging, and effective learning environment for younger students.

Effective teaching, especially with young learners, involves a mix of engaging activities, flexibility in handling technical issues, and sensitivity to student preferences and moods. Teachers should have a variety of strategies and resources to ensure a smooth and enjoyable learning experience.

Here are all the helpful resources:

➡️Student Space

Webinar link: Student Space Webinar

Here are some key highlights from the recording, but we recommend watching the webinar in full.

👉Sections of Student Space are Start, Course Plan, Messages, My Lessons, My Account, and Tools. Students must complete their Homework, Pre-lesson, and Flashcard activities in the 'My Lessons' section for them to be marked as done. If these tasks are completed in the 'Course Plan' section, they will not be saved.

👉Teachers will not have access to Progress Tests, as these are fully automated to ensure quality assurance. However, starting in autumn, we will introduce a new testing system that provides not only correct answers but also detailed explanations. For lower levels (A2 and below), explanations will be provided in the student's native languages. This change aims to enhance the student experience while freeing up teachers' time. Additionally, students will still be able to download a certificate after completing a Progress Test.

👉AI tools have been available and are highly recommended by those who dare to explore

👉Students can download the Fluentbe App and study using their smartphones. At the moment we don't have an app for teachers.

👉Students can reach the office Monday through Friday during the following hours:

Poland: 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. All other countries: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Contact details are available in the Student Space and vary based on the student's country of origin.

➡️How to teach ESP

Webinar link: How to teach ESP

Here are some key highlights from the recording, but we recommend watching the webinar in full.

🌟ESP Courses: These are tailored to industry-specific vocabulary and communication skills, designed to be practical and directly applicable to professional scenarios.

🌟Teacher's Role: You're not expected to be an industry expert. Focus on helping students communicate effectively and professionally in English, using targeted vocabulary.

🌟Repetition: Essential for internalizing new terms and ensuring active use in real-life contexts.

🌟Explore and Update: Please review the ESP library, explore the available courses, and update your specialties in your profile.

🌟Combining Courses: ESP courses are designed to complement, not replace, standard courses. They expand students' knowledge but don't always contribute to level advancement. Details on how and when to combine them are available in each course description, so please review this information before reaching out to the team.

For further details, see the linked article explaining how to search and combine courses effectively.

➡️Lesson visits

Webinar link: Lesson visits

Lesson visits are an integral part of maintaining quality assurance in teaching, designed to support educators rather than evaluate them. They offer opportunities for teachers to receive constructive feedback and improve their instructional practices. This article explores the rationale, process, and key criteria involved in lesson visits.

Lesson visits serve as a valuable resource for teachers, enabling them to enhance their instructional skills while maintaining a high standard of education. By focusing on clear goals, structured lessons, effective communication, and professionalism, educators can create engaging and supportive learning environments for their students. Embracing this process not only benefits individual teachers but also enriches the overall educational experience.

➡️Exam Preparation

Webinar link: Exam Preparation

The session covered the various exams for adult learners that Fluentbe helps adults prepare for, specifically the IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, and Cambridge exams.

Key differences between these exams were discussed, including their formats, scoring systems, and specific requirements.

For further details, refer to the article on Exam preparation: Adult learners

Tip: AI tools can be valuable for general assessment, checking writing tasks, and generating ideas for speaking tasks. However, it’s important to avoid over-relying on them. Use these tools to enhance clarity and accuracy while guiding your students to develop their own skills and insights.

➡️Free Talk

Webinar link: Free Talk

The discussion explored effective strategies and challenges in teaching 'Free Talk' lessons, emphasizing the importance of flexibility, structure, and personalization.

A lack of challenge, feedback, or corrections can hinder progress, as students may repeat mistakes despite frequent lessons.

Teachers are encouraged to establish clear objectives, track progress, and explain the value of corrections constructively.

Building rapport, easing students into corrections, and targeting specific mistakes fosters confidence and growth.

Ultimately, the session emphasized relevance, adaptability, and balance as key to effective teaching when it comes to 'Free Talk' lessons.
