1. How to Teach During Power Outages (Emergency Setup)
To minimize the risk of missing classes due to load shedding or blackouts, we recommend having the following backup measures in place:
UPS for Wi-Fi Router: An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) keeps your router running for several hours during a power outage.
Mobile Hotspot: Keep your mobile phone charged and ready to switch to a mobile data hotspot immediately if your Wi-Fi drops.
Laptop Battery: Ensure your laptop battery is fully charged before your block of lessons.
LAN Cable: Use a direct Ethernet cable from your router to your computer for a stable connection.
Power Outage Apps: Use local tracking apps (such as EskomSePush or local grid notifications) to anticipate scheduled power cuts.
2. Late Cancellations & Deduction Policy
12-Hour Rule: Any lesson canceled or rescheduled by a teacher with less than 12 hours' notice automatically triggers a financial deduction.
No-Show Deductions: Failing to log in or leaving a class early without completing the full session also results in a deduction.
3. Requesting a Deduction Review (Force Majeure) If a deduction was applied due to an unavoidable emergency or severe force majeure event, you can request a review to potentially have it lifted.
What evidence is ACCEPTED?
Official documentation or proof of force majeure that clearly displays the exact date and time of the event.
Official confirmation from an internet provider or power company regarding an unscheduled, widespread outage in your area.
What explanations are NOT ACCEPTED?
Evidence of force majeure without a date or with a different date than the deducted class.
Predictable situations where you could have canceled in advance (e.g., known illness, planned travel, personal events).
Standard Wi-Fi instability where a mobile hotspot backup was not attempted.
4. How to Submit Your Justification If you have a valid justification with official documentation, reply directly to the notification message in your Intercom support chat describing the situation and attaching your proof. Our team will review your case and update you on whether the deduction can be lifted.
